Student Center + Ribbon Sculpture

A project with Page for Collin College's new campus in Wylie, TX included LightArt's custom Ribbon Sculpture within the Student Center building.

For this brand new campus designers asked for a visually compelling sculpture that not only unified the interior three-story Student Center and social staircase, but could also make an impact when seen from the outside.

At approximately at 16'H x 30'L x 8'W, the Ribbon Sculpture creates a visual interest and three dimensionality by connecting with the interior material colors.

The new three-story Student Center houses the Student Government, Art and Music Departments, as well as a dining hall.

The active and highly trafficked building includes a Social Staircase where students can gather to connect and collaborate and where the Music Department can share performances and events.

It was important for the Ribbon Sculpture to unite the building's sophisticated and refined aesthetic. Designers chose a combination of warm colors starting with Taffy, a deep magenta hue, and combining Sherbet + Carnival to create a warm and bold orange. The third material selected was Traffic Emboss + Carnival, adds textural energy and movement.
